Club member Tony DeMambro recently took his 2003 Z06 to the Greenwood Co in Florida for installation of the famous " Greenwood Ground Effects" package.

Here is his story

Car is in shop having rear tunnel installed.  Red corvette behind is test vehicle and car used in brochures. The installation was completed in 1 week.  Judy and I had to go to Key West while we waited it was tough waiting it out but we managed. You can see the windshield fairing was installed and waiting on the epoxy to dry.

Rear tunnel being installed. Brothers Joe left and Tim right Greenwood, this was 8PM the night before we left. Car on the right covered in plastic is a C4 having a complete body kit installed.

Car leaving shop at 8AM Tim Greenwood standing by car, serial number is a Greenwood C#2, it is the first complete car with all C5 pieces.  Car # 1 is owned by Geoff Bodine the race car driver and soon to be car tuner.  The rear wing and other pieces have been tested to around 200 mph.  Needless to say Judy and I will not be doing close to that but the differences we notice are
1.  First impression car feels heavy.
2.  It seems like its on rails the faster you go.
3.  If you slip stream a large truck there is certain point you can feel the air turbulence I noticed it driving down to Florida.  I tried it on the way back and every place you put it, behind or along side a truck it felt stuck to the ground or on rails.  You felt no movement.

Tim wanted to show his father John Greenwood and Uncle the car, as it is the first complete car.  Tim is to the left, his Uncle is in the middle and father is on right. Tim’s father and uncle are the ones responsible for all the Greenwood Corvette race cars.  If you were at Carlisle this year you saw a lot of their cars on display.  The cars under the tarps are a few of those.  Tim’s uncle is the aero designer and John the father is the mechanics designer and driver.

While at Carlisle this year we had a chance to talk to one of the drivers of these cars.  He said, his claim to fame was to place in the top 6 cars at Sebring 24 hour race.

The noise inside the cars was so loud that one day he forgot his ear plugs and had to go back to the pit to for them.  The pain was so bad he had to slow down just to get there.

The temperature inside was always unbearably hot.

To finish the race was an accomplishment as mechanical problems and reliability was an enormous issue.
